If you have a laptop and some basic technical knowledge, you can take any image on earth and modify it to your heart’s content. The social issues caused by this are yet to be fully studied, but, for example, researchers believe that increased Instagram use among teens creates a higher risk of depression, anxiety and low-self esteem.

As easy as it is to laugh at some of the examples here, the truth is that most of these folks feel some shame in their own bodies and want to compensate for it with technology. This is generally due to a lack of funds as, let’s face it, folks with income will simply get actual plastic surgery.
After all, these days most things can be changed pretty thoroughly. Take buccal fat removal. If you have seen a famous Hollywood star or pop singer with a weirdly thin and angular face, this is likely because they had the fat in their cheeks removed.

This issue tends to impact women more than men. A Dove sponsored study found that not only do young women spend more time on social media, roughly half of the teens they interviewed indicated that this activity directly impacts their mental health. Even worse, almost 90% said that consuming, for example, Instagram content makes them feel less beautiful.
